2003 Ford Cobra
(photos by SF)

“Daily driven 10’s or break it trying.”

This is pretty much Greg’s goal for his white 2003 Cobra. After buying one of the first 03's to be placed on his local dealers lot, the mods started flying. Greg isn't the type of person that wants to take a nice new car, gut it, and turn it into a race car. Comfort and brute power are at the forefront of his mind. Remember, we are talking about a car that needs to be driven to work, the track, and everything in between. Sure, most people slap on a Whipple or Kenne Bell. Heck–some even up the ante with ProChargers and Turbo kits. Greg, however, wanted to go with a plan he felt was rock solid. And rock solid it was, to the tune of consistent 10.4's @130+ MPH.

“Impressive” is definitely the word to describe the time slips for this car, but the mods are quite a simple dish served up–ported stock blower, 14psi of boost, a little Nitrous, and one wicked-good driver (we'll talk about that later). One of the most important factors of this car though, is that it's as silky smooth as the day it came off the lot. This is due to the Wicked EEC Tuning performed by Nick at MC Racing (www.gomcracing.com) after a couple hours spent on the dyno rollers. In only a few hours this little white ‘03 Cobra spun the rollers to a tune of 600 RWHP and 695 RWTQ with a small shot of Nitrous.

Now back to what I was saying about "one wicked-good driver." Greg A. is quite possibly one of the best drivers the HOB staff has ever seen. If not the best, he is ranks in the top 5. Pass, after pass, after pass, Greg pounds this Cobra within an inch of it's life and sometimes past it. After a launch, you’ll never see the nose drop as it gets SLAMMED through the gears. Greg has single-handedly broken every single part in the drive train with one launch at the track. Yes you read it correctly … everything–including tranny, input shaft, clutch, rear-end, and an axle. Greg was ready to get big numbers at the track and a 7,000 RPM clutch dump was called to the effort, "just to see what happens … " What happened though was everything breaking in an instant.

That didn't stop Greg though–he had the car back on the road and at the track the following weekend to cure his thirst for speed. Below are the specs that got this car to where it’s at today. Still retaining the stock seats, stereo, interior and other aspects, she is 100% a fully weighted street car that runs in the 10’s. Just what Greg set his mind to do.
