First things first, this GTO is currently featured in this months GM HighTech magazine, so be sure and check that out!
Anyways, so we knew that the small intercooler that came with the orginal P1SC system was holding these cars back after it would get heat soaked. Since after the car was warmed up, the HP numbers would suffer due to the inlet temps. So we looked for a solution, and it came in the form of a MUCH larger front mount intercooler, and an upgrade to 3″ tubing. The stock ATI intercooler we have found does great up to about 550-600hp, and then a bigger solution is needed. The intercooler system consists of just 2 tubes now, and 4 pieces of rubber! Talk about easy installation, and no more worries about couplers coming apart under high boost. (This car makes 14psi)
Check out that jump in midrange TQ! And it was actually 3 degrees warmer inside the shop on the pulls with the larger intercooler. Even with 14psi of boost, and just a mild dyno fan, we were only seeing a rise of just 24 degrees of inlet temps on back to back pulls. The camshaft that we use with this GTO package, is designed to make TQ and a streetable power curve, we think you will agree it does just that.
